I wanted to play with drum grooves in this song. I studied percussion for over 20 years and I wanted to see if I could create a "Tango" type of danceable breakbeat groove. I think I did pretty good.
lyrics
Verse 1:
I know he says he loves you baby
I know he says he loves you
"Just want to get to know you betta"
He says it to the others too
He wants to give you something nice
Show you all of paradise
Baby don't you fool yourself
Cause if you didn't know
That Freddie's something else
Chours:
Oh no!
He's such a Chump
He ain't worth much
Just a flashy lowlife
Baby girl he ain't the one
You know Freddie he's a Chump
Gotta move on hun
What you contemplating
Raise your hands and shout
(Repeat)
Verse 2
So what you gonna do darlin'?
I wish that you were smiling
Your insecurities ain't hard to see
You need to build your self-esteem
Get to know yourself better
Tell yourself you "Love You"
It'd be great if you did these things
Because then
You'd be ready for me
(Chorus)
Can't you see the glitter and the gold
you can't still think like that little girl
I can testify
The sea is mighty wide
Remember if he says "what's up"
Freddie is a Chump

Zero Grasses is yet another masterpiece by a truly unique artist. Jen Shyu is a consummate scholar-practitioner. Her vast knowledge of East Asian musical traditions is audible in her voice, its impeccable articulation and expressive range.
This album focuses decades of intense craftsmanship to bear on deeply personal reflections on family, loss and growing up as an Asian-American woman. It's a deeply touching, beautiful record that I cannot recommend highly enough. Cosmographer

It's hjyper-edgy and yet still in the tradition. I hear echoes of Trane and Ornette and the more I listen, I'm sure the more connections I'll hear. davxyz234
